Free backpacks, supplies for Houston, Texas elementary students

HOUSTON — It’s back to school across the Houston area and today, the City of Houston is helping economically-disadvantaged elementary school students and their families get ready.

During the Back to School Fest at the George R. Brown Convention Center, 25,000 backpacks with supplies will be handed out. Students can also get on-site health screenings, including dental, vision and routine immunizations. Families can learn about services being offered by different community agencies.

This will take place in halls A and B at the GRB from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. or until supplies last. If you’re heading down there, you can park in Minute Paid Parking Lot C at Preston and Emanuel for free. All vehicles do need to be out of that lot by 3 p.m.
